About Gifted Assessment & Testing for Children
Mills | Gosse Psychology offers an assessment specifically designed to assess your child’s cognitive ability (intelligence), and the results can be used to determine if they may be eligible for Gifted Programming at school. We currently administer the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, Fifth Edition (WISC-V), the most widely used and well-validated measure of intelligence in children, which is most widely accepted by all local school boards for this purpose. This is a specialized service where only this test is administered, and scores are given to parents for their use. It is important to note that each school board has specific criteria for defining giftedness, independent of our organization and the test itself. After completing the assessment, parents can provide the results to the school, which will then determine eligibility for gifted programming.
The gifted assessment service solely provides intelligence scores and does not encompass the evaluation of any other learning or behavioural issues. If you have any additional concerns regarding your child’s learning, academic functioning, or behaviour that you wish to have assessed, we suggest considering a psychoeducational assessment. These additional concerns will not be evaluated in a gifted assessment.
Psychological assessment services may be conducted by qualified assessors under supervision, and may not be performed by a psychologist directly. While this is a very common and widely accepted practice, some insurance plans do not cover such services. Therefore, you must inquire with your insurance provider to determine coverage.

The final report will be prepared and emailed typically within 3-5 business days after the appointment.
Kindly Note:
Please avoid any attempt to prepare or study for intelligence tests, as such efforts can undermine the accuracy of your cognitive profile. In some cases, we may not be able to provide scores if we believe the results are compromised by prior preparation. There is no valid way to “study” for gifted testing because it measures aptitude, not learned knowledge. Be wary of services that claim to offer test preparation; these are generally unreliable. The most effective approach is simply to arrive well-rested, calm, and ready to do your best. Please remember that the results do not reflect your overall worth as a person.
